What a pallet stacker is
A stacker is a compact, usually battery-powered machine that lifts pallets onto shelving or stacks them. Walk-behind models are steered by an operator on foot; ride-on models carry the operator. Stackers typically handle lighter loads than forklifts, and their capacity falls as they lift higher.
When a stacker is enough
- Loads are light and the pallet weights are known.
- Floors are smooth, level and indoors.
- Lift heights are moderate and aisles are tight.
- Distances are short, such as within a stockroom.
When you need a forklift instead
- Loading and unloading trucks, or working in yards and on uneven ground.
- Heavier or longer loads, such as building materials, machinery or steel.
- Stuffing and unloading containers, which needs a container-mast forklift.
- Long distances between storage and dispatch.
Details that decide the choice
The heaviest pallet’s weight and size, the lift height, the aisle width, the floor surface and whether any work happens outdoors or at a truck.
