Small sites in Dubai, such as villa gardens, shop fit-outs, warehouse units and community compounds, have one thing in common: very little room. A compact loader is usually the first machine people ask for, and it is often the right one, but the work decides the machine, not the size of the plot. This guide helps you choose the machine, or the pair of machines, for a tight site and shows what to send so the choice can be confirmed before anything is delivered.

Start with the task, then check the space
Name what has to happen first: digging, loading out, carrying, spreading, lifting or sweeping. Then check that the chosen machine can reach the work and still has room to turn once it is there.
- Loading out debris, sand or soil, spreading fill, rough levelling or sweeping: a compact skid steer. For this Bobcat-type work we supply the CAT 226B with an operator.
- Digging trenches, footings or pits: a mini excavator.
- Lifting pallets onto racks or trucks: a forklift.
- Lifting items over a wall or onto a roof: a mobile crane.
- Moving large stockpiles across open ground: a wheel loader.
What the CAT 226B can carry on a tight site
Caterpillar rates the 226B at 680 kg operating capacity, with an operating weight of about 2.6 tonnes. Two things follow for a small job.
- Loads are limited by weight, not bucket size. Wet sand and crushed stone reach 680 kg before the bucket looks full, so heavy material moves in more, smaller trips. On a plot where every trip passes through a narrow side passage, that affects how long the job takes.
- The route has to carry the machine. Driveway slabs, interlock paving, drain covers and tank lids between the gate and the work area take the full weight. Ask the site supervisor to check them, and mention any finished surface that must not be marked.
The CAT 226B capacity guide explains the other figures on its specification sheet.
When one machine is not enough
Many small jobs need two machines in turn. A mini excavator digs a footing or service trench, then the skid steer backfills it and cleans up. Or the skid steer loads a skip or tipper standing in the street while a second machine keeps working inside.
Agree the order before booking. Decide where the spoil sits while the digging goes on, whether both machines fit on site at the same time, and whether they should arrive on different days. Booking them in sequence avoids paying for a machine that is waiting for the other one to finish.
Decide where the material goes
Plan the way out for the material before the work starts. Confirm:
- where a skip or tipper can stand, and whether the community or building management allows it on the road and for how long;
- whether material can be piled near the gate first and loaded out in one go, which suits very tight plots;
- who arranges the skip or tipper, and when it will be collected.
Working around neighbours
Small sites usually sit next to homes, shops or other units. Agree working hours with the community or building management, keep shared roads and entrances clear, and tell the neighbours when the transport truck will arrive and leave.
Send these details for a small-site quote
- the task and the material, with a rough quantity;
- where the material ends up: a skip, a tipper or a pile on site;
- photos of the gate, the route in and the work area (the site access checklist lists what to photograph and measure);
- any surface along the route that must stay undamaged;
- your preferred date and how long you expect the work to take.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Bobcat always the right machine for a small site?
No. It suits loading, carrying, spreading and cleaning loose material. If the job is mainly digging, a mini excavator is the better first machine, and many small jobs use both, one after the other.
Does the Bobcat come with an operator?
Yes. The CAT 226B is supplied with an operator, so you do not need your own trained driver.
How much can the machine carry in one load?
Its rated operating capacity is 680 kg. Heavy material such as wet sand or crushed stone reaches that limit before the bucket looks full, so plan for more, smaller loads.
