Skid Steer Attachments: Bucket, Forks, Auger, Broom, Hammer

Published by UAE Equipment Rental 5 min read Updated

A skid steer is only as useful as the tool on its front. The same machine can load sand in the morning, move pallets at midday and drill fence-post holes in the afternoon, provided the right skid steer attachments are on site. With the CAT 226B we supply with an operator, a bucket is standard, and forks, a broom, an auger, a trencher and a hammer can be arranged, depending on availability. This guide explains what each one is for and what to tell the team so the right tool arrives.

Skid steer bucket: loading, carrying and spreading

The bucket is the standard tool for moving sand, soil, gravel and rubble, loading skips and tippers, spreading fill and rough levelling. Tell the team the material and whether it is loose, compacted or mixed with debris. The rated capacity of the CAT 226B is 680 kg, so heavy, wet material reaches that limit before the bucket is full.

Pallet forks: pallets and packed materials

Pallet forks turn the loader into a small yard handler for blocks, bagged materials and palletised goods over short distances on firm ground. Give the pallet weight and size, and do not plan a load above 680 kg. For heavier loads, high stacking or long distances, a forklift is usually the better machine.

Auger: holes for posts and planting

An auger drills round holes for fence posts, sign posts and tree planting. The key details are the hole diameter, the depth, the number of holes and the ground: sand, compacted fill and very hard ground drill at very different speeds. Mark underground services before drilling.

Skid steer broom: sweeping paved areas

A broom clears dust, sand and fine debris from roads, yards and paved areas, which a bucket tends to leave behind. Say what surface is being swept, how large it is and whether dust has to be controlled near occupied buildings or open shops.

Trencher: narrow, shallow trenches

A trencher cuts narrow trenches for cables or irrigation where a bucket would dig too wide. Give the trench width, depth and length, and the type of ground. Deeper or wider trenches need an excavator; the excavator attachment guide covers those options.

Hammer: light breaking

A Bobcat hammer, also called a breaker, breaks thin concrete slabs, kerbs and light hardstanding in places a larger excavator cannot reach. Tell the team how thick the concrete is and whether it is reinforced. For thick or heavily reinforced concrete, an excavator with a breaker is more effective.

What to check on the machine

If you mainly plan to use a bucket, forks and an auger, three things decide whether a skid steer will do the job:

  • Rated capacity: this limits every bucket and pallet load. On the CAT 226B it is 680 kg.
  • Auxiliary hydraulics: powered tools such as augers and hammers run from them. The CAT 226B has them, and the CAT 226B specifications list the other figures.
  • Turning space: a tool on the front makes the machine longer, so mention tight gates and corners when you enquire.

Ask for the combination you need

If the job needs two tools, for example a hammer to break a path and a bucket to load the pieces, ask for both in the same booking. Each attachment is a separate item, so confirm every one for your date. For typical daily add-on rates, see skid steer attachments for rent.

Send the task, the material or surface, the tool you want, site photos and the date to Equipment Rental Enquiries on +971 54 738 8695 by phone or WhatsApp, or use the equipment enquiry form. To book the machine, see Bobcat rental in Dubai.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a bucket included with the Bobcat?

Yes. The bucket is the standard attachment on the CAT 226B. Forks, a broom, an auger, a trencher and a hammer are arranged depending on availability and should be named when you book.

Can I use more than one attachment in a day?

Yes, if the tools are on site. Ask for all of them in the same booking, because an extra tool cannot be added part-way through the work.

What is the difference between a Bobcat hammer and an excavator breaker?

A Bobcat hammer handles light breaking, such as thin slabs and kerbs. Thick or heavily reinforced concrete needs an excavator with a breaker.
